Sunday Silence

on The Hotel Thoroughbred in Paris, KY

Sunday Silence was honored as the 2025 “Legend of Bourbon County” with this mural on

the new Hotel Thoroughbred

(right across Main Street from Secretariat Park).

Sunday Silence was the 1989 Kentucky Derby, Preakness and Breeders’ Cup Classic winner. His “Ugly Duckling” fairy tale of a story is truly remarkable and can be found in many books and documentaries,. His story along with the story of Arthur Hancock, his owner and breeder can be found in the Arthur’s autobiography, “Dark Horses”—-a fabulous read!

I worked primarily after dark to avoid the summer heat and sun

Arthur & Staci Hancock on the Mural dedication day. The highlight of the celebration was (in my opinion) a live performance by Arthur and his son Arthur JR. of his original song “Sunday Silence,” Not a dry eye in the house!!

This was my first mural to “wrap” around a corner of a building and also my highest at over 50 feet up! I have officially conquered my fear of heights-lol.
